Madera Unified Invited to Travel to Taiwan to Perform in Art Festival

Madera, Calif.,- Madera Unified School District teachers will travel alongside the Director of Visual and Performing Arts, Dr. Marcheta Williams, to Yilan, Taiwan on Sunday, Oct, 9 to represent the United States in the International Arts Festival.

The International Arts Festival will host its’ 3rd festival with 11 countries from all over the world in attendance. Dr. Marcheta Williams and Madera Unified teachers were invited to perform in the festival and to learn musical motivational strategies for student engagement.

Dr. Williams is a Jazz, Rhythm and Blues vocalist and songwriter. Six music teachers, (many of them, holding Master’s of Arts degrees in Music) were selected based on their instrumental musical talent.  The instruments to be used include: the violin, percussion, saxophone, flute, clarinet and bass. The musical group will perform six jazz numbers with Dr. Williams performing the vocals.  

The group will hold a rehearsal on Monday, Oct. 3, at Martin Luther King Elementary at 3:30 p.m. to prepare before their departure.
